Level 2 Animal Nursing Assistant

The qualification is designed for all types of learner who have an interest in animal nursing. Learners will be able to develop their existing knowledge and understanding of animal care in the veterinary environment.

 

The ABC Level 2 Certificate for Animal Nursing Assistants qualification is designed to provide individuals with an opportunity to develop knowledge, understanding and practical skills relating to veterinary nursing, in preparation for further learning and a career in animal care or Veterinary Nursing, based within a Veterinary Practice.

Following course completion learners will be able to confidently carry out the practical role of the animal nursing assistant whilst truly understanding how to support animals and staff in practice. 

 

This qualification is nationally recognised, approved by Ofqual and certificated by ABC Awards https://certaawards.co.uk/.

All course delivery is online 

As this course is theory based all materials and assessments will be provided online. You will be allocated an experienced and qualified tutor to support you through the qualification. 

 

To be able to meet different learner needs the College of Companion Animal Studies uses different types of teaching materials such as:

·        Videos

·        Voice over slides

·        Workbooks

·        Information booklets

·        Articles 

·        Prezi, Quizlet and Kahoot

We find that providing learners with a variety of different learning materials increases engagement with the course content and supports the retention of knowledge long term.

How is the course assessed?

At the end of this course you gain a Level 2 qualification in Animal Nursing Assistant awarded by ABC awards.

​

You will be given hand-in dates for your assessments, your work will be marked and feedback will be provided by your tutor. Depending on whether you choose to complete the Award or Certificate in Animal Nursing Assistants will depend on the assessment load. Both the Award and Certificate require you to sit externally set questions for the Companion Animal Anatomy and Physiology Unit.

 

The Level 2 Animal Nursing Assistant Certificate requires the learner to gain a work placement. During the work placement learners will support practice staff by carrying out the practical activities that they will need to be assessed completing for the qualification e.g. cleaning accommodation, infection control and restraint of patients.

Additional considerations 

To register on this qualification you must be 16 years and over.

​

There are no graded entry requirements but to be successful on this qualification it is important that you have either studied at Level 1 or hold a least three D grade GCSEs.

​

As described above the Level 2 Certificate requires learners to complete a work placement of no shorter than 15 working days. 

​

If your intention is to continue to study to become a Veterinary Nurse after completing this course please contact your local Veterinary Nursing college to check whether you need to hold additional qualifications such as English or Maths to gain entry to their course. 

​
