Level 3 Certificate in Companion Animal Nutrition

Course details

The qualification is designed for all types of learner that have an interest in companion animal nutrition and behaviour. Learners will be able to develop their existing knowledge and understanding of companion animal nutritional requirements and the effect nutrition has on behaviour.

Following course completion learners will be able to confidently explain the importance of providing a balanced diet and making the appropriate adaptions throughout an animal’s life. This course is particularly unique in that it makes the link between nutrition and behaviour.

  • Diets and Feeding Regimes for Dogs and Cats

  • Nutrition for Dogs and Cats in Health and Disease

  • The Basics of Nutrition for Dogs and Cats

  • The Effect of Nutrition on the Behaviour of Dogs and Cats

This course is unique as it has been designed to include a unit on how nutrition can affect behaviour. 

All course delivery is online 

As this course is theory based all materials and assessments can be provided online. You will be allocated an experienced and qualified tutor to support you through the qualification. 

 

To be able to meet different learner needs the College of Companion Animal Studies uses different types of teaching materials such as:

  • Videos

  • Voice over slides

  • Workbooks

  • Information booklets

  • Articles 

  • Prezi, Quizlet and Kahoot

We find that providing learners with a variety of different learning materials increases engagement with the course content and supports the retention of knowledge long term.

How is the course assessed?

At the end of this course you gain a Level 3 qualification in Companion Animal Nutrition awarded by Certa Awards. Qualifications are different to short courses and continuing professional development (CPD). Due to this you must complete and pass all assessments. 

You will be given hand-in dates for your assessments, your work will be marked and feedback will be provided by your tutor.

There are seven assessments which assess the four course units. The assessments focus on basic digestive anatomy, nutritional requirements of life stages and illness, diets and feeding regimes and the effects of nutrition on behaviour in both the cat and dog.

Courses will run every September and March lasting for 6 months.
